Sketching Adventures
....sketches, snapshots, observations and adventures of a Nomadic Artist
Schedule
How much does it cost?

All the sketch crawls I organise are 'by donation'. This means you give whatever you feel is appropriate, if it's a difficult month for you financially you don't need to give anything. I don't want anyone to feel they can'y go on a Sketch Crawl for reasons of money. Donations go mainly towards the cost of publising the event with the likes of posters and my newsletter Sketching Adventures. Remember I'm a full time artist and I put on the SketchCrawls as a community event not as a money earner.

Is this a regular event?

Yes. - I expect to organise a Sketch Crawl approximately evey 3 to 4 months.
Where can I find out when the next one is being held?

The most reliable place is here on this web site. Second place is to call into Working Artist Studios in Skibbereen where I'm a member. Third is to look out for my Sketching Adventures Newsletter. Best way of all is to join my mailing list where I can keep you up to date by email of all the Sketching News, not only Sketch Crawls but other art news and events as well as getting my free Newsletter.
Who runs this event?

I do, sketching is a great practice so I thought it would be great if a group of enthusiasts got together every so often for a few hours. To do it as a group is both an extra motivation and fun, all at the same time.

Is there any tuition?

No this isn't an Art Workshop or anything like that. Although I teach classes and workshops in art. On the day I just want to get out there and sketch like everyone else. In other words the sole purpose is to get out and about for a few hours to sketch whatever catches your eye.

(Occasionally I might invite some of my pupils to sketch along with me and give them some tuition on the day).
Where do we meet?

We all meet up at my Art Studio at 71 North Street, Skibbereen, West Cork at the times mentioned.

If in doubt contact me - Barry McCullough on 087 2190648 or use my Contact form here
What is the format of the Sketchcrawl?

Meet at the time and place mentioned.

We all go sketching around the area picked for the day - usually Skibbereen.

Usually we go off individually to sketch but you can of course head out with a friend or in a group if everyone in your group's OK with that.

We meet back at the starting point at the agreed time, for a mug of tea or coffee, a chat and to share our sketches.

Sometimes if I feel inspired I put a number of the sketches up on the web, but that's totally up to me.

What do I need to bring?

Only yourself and whatever materials you intend to sketch with. I suggest you keep it all very simple. Remember to dress well for the weather. Sketching requires comfort - a few hours sitting still, sketching can get a bit chilly except for that rare occasion when we have a heat wave.

You can of course bring a few cakes or biscuits to share afterwards with the group if you feel inspired.

Most of all bring your enthusiasm.
How did these Sketchcrawls come about?

I've always been keen to sketch and draw regularly to help my work as a full time professional artist. It's hard to find the motivation sometimes to just get out there and sketch and to ignore the never ending distractions we all face. So I thought it would be good to arrange dates were I could go out with one or two friends, just like having a jogging/training partner or partners.

Then I thought why not just run it for anyone who wants to come along. I then discovered there are groups doing this worldwide and so I thought whatever we do as a group locally here in West Cork we can share globally through the Internet. I also develop web sites - so I have the necessary web sites and know-how to do this.

And so that's how my Sketchcrawls got going.
